14 Days Johannesburg – Soweto – Kruger National Park
Cape Town – Oudtshoorn – Tsitsikamma – Port Elizabeth (or vice versa)
Get ready for a two-week adventure that covers South Africa’s biggest bustling cities, a chance to spot the Big 5 at our majestic Kruger National Park and a beautiful part of the well-known Garden Route.
The Smiley Double Loop Self-Drive: Johannesburg – Kruger National Park & Port Elizabeth – Cape Town includes:
– premium accommodation x10 + standard accommodation x3, breakfast x10
– a Group C rental vehicle with executive insurance
– 1 flight from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth OR from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg
– a cycle tour through Soweto, 1x night drive in Kruger National Park, 1x early morning drive in Kruger National Park, 1x Robben Island tour and the Cape Town City Cycle tour.
Group size: minimum 2
The following day, all refreshed, you get to do a 2 hour bicycle ride through the Soweto township. It’s a day with many historically important sites of South Africa’s political past.
You then head to Kruger National Park via the panoramic route – take your time and enjoy the wide-stretched views. In Kruger a guided night drive and morning drive, both included in this self-drive, offer you the biggest chance to spot the Big 5 (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhino). There is plenty time to explore the Park by yourself and you are guaranteed to see plenty of antelope, warthog, zebra and birds.
Circle round and drive back to Johannesburg to hand in your vehicle at O.R. Tambo International Airport to catch your flight to Port Elizabeth. Pick up your new vehicle and meander through the Garden Route for a good three days. In Storms River Village, close to the forests of Tsitsikamma National Park, the more adventurous travellers can bungee jump of the Bloukrans Bridge, zip-line through the canopy or go black water tubing. A hike through the Tsitsikamma forest is also recommended by Smiley Face Tours, just like a stop in Knysna. These are all extra activities we can book for you.
After a good sleep in Oudtshoorn, where you can visit the Cango Caves or an Ostrich Show Farm, you follow Route 62 to Cape Town. Here you spend 3 days, starting with a city cycle tour to get to know your way around town and to experience its history and cosmopolitan vibe from up close. Another activity that is favoured by the Smiley Face Tours team and is included in this self-drive is a Robben Island tour where you can see one of the jail cells that our most celebrated South African hero Nelson Mandela served 18 years of his 27 year prison sentence.
Spend your last holiday cash on marvellous seafood at the V&A Waterfront or buy souvenirs at one of the many markets. Take it all in and say farewell to the colourful Mother City. You drop off your vehicle at Cape Town International Airport before boarding your flight back home.
